First Annual Art Show Winners Announced

ART SHOW WINNERS ANNOUNCED AT SYRACUSE INVITATIONAL 

Winning entries submitted from Auburn to Saratoga further illustrate the region’s love for equine beauty

October 29, 2009 (Syracuse, NY) – Following a robust response of entries from around the region, the winners of the First I Love New York Horses Art Show, presented by the 2009 Syracuse Invitational Sporthorse Tournament, were announced today.

Best in Show went to Amy Goodall-Ayres of Syracuse, New York, for her photograph “Prospective No. 2.” Honorable Mention was awarded to Victoria Brzustowler of Penfield, New York for her oil on canvas entitled “Frequent Flyer.”

“It was extremely interesting to see so many different perspectives from so many creative people of these creatures we love,” said Beezie Madden, who served the show as an honorary judge. “And the theme was a common one – admiration of these beautiful animals.”

Senator David Valesky also served as an honorary judge. “Congratulations to all of the winners and entrants, who produced some truly amazing artwork,” said the Senator. “I was honored to serve as a judge for this inaugural event, which celebrates the growing equine industry in Central New York, a point of pride for the entire region.”

The panel of judges consisted of Kim Waale of Cazenovia College, Steve Kern of the Everson Museum of Art in Syracuse, Tim Foxx, on air personality with WSYR Channel 9 in Syracuse, and Mason Phelps of the National Horse Show.

The open division winner was Nancy Bates of Auburn, New York for her photograph entitled “Loving.” In the college division the ribbon went to Megan King of Cazenovia College for her work in acrylics entitled “Freedom.” Meghin Ernst, a junior at Cicero-North Syracuse won the high school division with charcoal and pencil entitled “Gentle Touch.” In the middle school division Hayley Cosgrove of Bishop Ludden in Syracuse won with “Walk in the Sun,” a pastels work on suede. And in the middle school division Beth McGranahan of White Hall Elementary in White Hall, New York won with her pencil and crayon entitled “Grand Prix Dressage.”

Cash awards were awarded to each category winner which was made possible by the New York State Horse Council.

The works are on exhibit in the Oncenter in Syracuse through the Syracuse Invitational Sporthorse Tournament which concludes Sunday, November 1. For more information, visit www.syracuseinvitational.com.
